Challenge Coins
MEMBER, SPOUSE, AND FAMILY INPUT REQUESTED
‘CHALLENGE COINS’
The Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility has for some time awarded individuals a ‘challenge coin’ for participation in activities or for winning events. These coins are expensive, requiring great cost to the Club if they are awarded often.
Recently, the Pasco Fire Department issued clay poker chip challenge coins recognizing the various elements of their organization. These coins cost about $.60 each, including the custom artwork. In an effort to increase participation in scheduled shooting events, especially young/new shooters, TCMSA is exploring the idea of using these as a draw for the various events we schedule.
No decision has been made to proceed with this project yet. TCMSA is looking for ideas for the designs of multiple coins to reflect what we do at out range. One side of all the coins would have the TCMSA logo with the web address, the other side would have designs depicting the shooting events held at our range.
Some of the activities that can be depicted are:
CMP High Power
Sporting High Power
100 Yard rimfire
100 Yard mini palma
50 yard CMP Rimfire Sporting Games
50 yard NRA 3 position
3 gun competition
Benchrest
Hunter Sight in
Women/youth shoots
Any design reflecting who we are
You do not need to be an artist for a submission. Between members with art abilities and the manufacturers design group, we can collect designs and ideas.
Once collected and the Club votes to proceed, designs will be selected and the coins ordered. If your design is accepted, you will receive a framed challenge coin recognizing your contribution.
Send your thoughts, rough sketches or art work to TCMSA11@gmail.com
These are the coins the Pasco Fire Department gives away.
CMP RIMFIRE SPORTER GAMES
On Saturday, September 17,2022, TCMSA will host the CMP Rimfire Sporter Games. These games are open to everyone, members, spouses and kids. The gate will be open, and non-members are welcome to participate. We are looking forward to the Boy Scouts participating. The CMP games is the same course they use for their merit badge.
Set up is at 0730, and shooting starts at 0800. Depending on attendance, multiple relays may happen.
This event is free, just bring a rifle and ammunition.
The CMP Games are designed for fun as well as developing rifle skills for all participants. All that is required is a .22 LR sporter, like a Ruger 10-22, Marlin or Henry lever gun, any Marlin, Ruger, Remington, Mossberg semi auto, lever or bolt gun. If it has sights, is a repeater, and shoots .22LR, it works.
From the 50 yard line, you will use prone and either kneeling or sitting. From the 25 yard line, you will be standing. All positions require 10 rounds slow fire, and two strings of 5 rounds rapid fire. You will need 60 rounds for record plus sighters.
Shooting jackets and shooting gloves are not allowed. Non padded gloves and slings are allowed. A shooting mat and spotting scope are useful, carpets pieces are available and there will be people with spotting scopes to assist those that don’t have one.
There are different classifications for barrel mounted sights, aperture sights, scopes, and rifles with pistol grips or thumb hole stocks. Scopes are limited to 6 power or less, just set your variable to 6 and you are good.
This is nothing but fun. You need to try this, you will not be disappointed.

NEW .22 RIMFIRE COMPETITION DATES
Participation in the Sporting High Power matches has waned of late. The regular participants have agreed to switch to 50 yard .22 rimfire matches to see if we can increase participation in organized disciplines.
Starting on September 17,2022, we will have the CMP Rimfire Sporter Games. Set up will be 0730, with shooting starting at 0800. This is the same course of fire that is used by the Boy Scouts for their shooting badge.
The CMP designed the Rimfire Sporter Game for young shooters, and still have enough of a challenge for adults. BRING THE KIDS! YOU WILL ALSO BE SHOOTING!
CMP Rimfire Sporter Games is designed to use common rimfire sporting rifles, such as 10-22’s, Marlin, Mossberg and other makes of bolt actions, lever action and auto loaders. The rifles including sights/scopes have a weight limit of 7.5 pounds. There are multiple classes for different types of rifles and sights.
Classifications are:

CMP Rimfire 22LR Sporting Rifle
This program was developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program for a simple course of fire, friendly for both adults and junior shooters. That means when you come out, bring the spouse and the kids.
The Rimfire Sporter Shooting course is conducted in a manner that everyone gets all the time needed to understand the course and shoot all the rounds for the particular stage of fire.
On Saturday, July 9,2022, from 1000 to 1300 hrs, we will have a 50 yard “CMP Games, Rimfire Sporter Shooting” event, which uses regular .22 plinkers, sporting, hunting type rifles like Ruger 10-22, Browning/Marlin/Henry lever guns, Marlin/Mossberg bolt guns or anything else that shoots rimfires and weighs less than 7.5 pounds. The course requires 60 rounds plus sighters and shooting will be done from prone, kneeling or sitting and offhand. Prone, and kneeling/sitting are at 50 yards, offhand or standing is at 25 yards. All positions fire 10 rounds single load slow fire and two 5 round strings of rapid fire.
Specialized equipment is not allowed, no shooting coats, gloves or palm rests. You can use “garden gloves” or other types of non- padded gloves and slings. Shooters will be classed by the type of sights, barrel mounted irons, receiver sights and scopes. Spotting scopes are handy and if you don’t have a shooting mat, pieces of carpet are available in the sign-in trailer. This is free, just bring your rifles and ammo.
Range Closure
The range will be closed Wednesday, July 6,2022 from 0700-0930. Member Ron Hanson will be mowing the range. All members must remain vigilant while at the range, as the grasses dry out, fire danger increases.
